I have been watch the Jr high live stream South Webster and the ones calling the Jr high games are calling the highschool gym the Persin Palace, it got me thinking what other schools have a nickname or some kind of special name for their gymnasium
The passion and energy that Coach Persin brings to his seat on the bench each game is why it needs to be named after him! He’s spent many, many seconds standing on the sidelines at Soutn Webster and that deserves to be celebrated
“Howie’s Nest” in Reedsville and “The Howie Dome” in Glouster. I believe both have been officially named and he has been the most successful coach at both schools and it’s not even close. Is Howie the only coach to have gym’s at two different schools named after him?
Is there a better resume than Norms at Chesapeake and Oak Hill? I seriously doubt any coach in the area can make the claim that they coached a program to 500+ wins at one school, and a state championship at the other.
Yeah that Oak Hill team was pretty good. Were any of the players actually from Oak Hill? I know Nerm was a he11 of a recruiter back in the day. Probably his best aspect as a coach. Does he still recruit as well?
The early 2000s Eastern Brown gym was called “The Barn of Bedlam”. It was a stucco structure on the outside, that would have been right at home at South Beach in Miami on the exterior. The inside looked like a steel building that’s popular now. It was like a barn or hangar. The co.pany who designed and built it was sued for woefully bad work. The high school was rated and replaced due to black mold in ventilation, leaks, horrible construction..you name it. The company filed bankruptcy to protect from multiple lawsuits.the Barn of Bedlam was gutted, bricked, and redone and is now the Eastern Middle School gym. That place by steel design alone was SUPER LOUD on game night.
I had no idea what happened to the first gym that I saw Eastern Brown play in, but I knew it wasn’t the current gym when I went back 15 years after I originally went. I loved that other gym, but if it’s not safe, it’s not safe.
That’s a wild story, but sadly, probably isn’t the last time it has happened.
Chesapeake was an open district, so I don’t think it was difficult for anyone who wanted to leave and go to Chesapeake. Curious who he recruited? The only player I am aware of that wasn’t from Chesapeake in my years was Aaron Gossett, who was from CG. Am I missing who left their original school to play at Chesapeake?
