What is the rule??
a) The ball hits the side of the backboard??
b) The ball is on top of backboard and rolls back off the front and goes in??
c) The ball rolls off the back of the backboard and falls to floor??
d) The ball while on top of backboard hits the bracing or support system???

ClevelandBrowns#1,

I am not going to answer your questions, because I know the answers to them all, and I figure you are trying to show the MANY people on here how DUMB they are about the game of basketball. :12224

Can’t wait to see some of the answers you do manage to get.

Bobby,
Are you an official?? If not, answer them.

The purpose for these questions was not to make anyone look dumb. It was so we all could see how many answers show up. This is one of the reasons you here all the screaming at officials at games. How many really know the rules???

Cleveland,

Why not let the officials answer this, of which I am not one, which would put everyone on the right track? Officials should know the answers to the questions and could set everyone straight on the rules. Otherwise you have people answering questions with potentially wrong answers which will add to confusion by those that do not understand the rules.

The reason why I asked no officials please answer these was to see all the different answers that would show up. I actually want to use this as an instructional tool to help all those fans know a little about what they are screaming at the officials about!!! I thought after answers came through I would then give the CORRECT answer to all that I have posted!!!

So feel free to be the first to answer all the questions I have listed!!!

I would start with the referee’s on these questions. The reason people get upset at them is because one night it is one call the next night another call and the next night another call. There is no consistancy from crew to crew on basic calls. So therefore if someone tried to learn the rules from watching games locally they would just be confused.

Are you an official Cleveland?

What is the rule??

a) The ball hits the side of the backboard??

ball still in play and remains alive

b) The ball is on top of backboard and rolls back off the front and goes in??

1, 2, or 3 points depending on where shot or if it was a free throw

c) The ball rolls off the back of the backboard and falls to floor??

Dead ball when it goes behind

d) The ball while on top of backboard hits the bracing or support system???

Dead ball when it hits brace or support system

ding dong seen an official let the ball stay in play after it went behind :122246 I knew it was wrong but obviously the official didn’t

ding ding ding ding, crowten is a winner. The one that I see most miss called in the ball that rolls on top of the backboard. Many refs will call that a dead ball. If it doesn’t fall behind or hit a support it is a live ball. Clay HS has a strap cable that is used to pull the backboard up that seems to get hit all the time. It is pulled back a little bit with a cable but needs to be pulled all the way up, but if the ball touches it, it is a dead ball.

I wonder if the refs actually go over these kind of rules for each school, considering most schools are different
