Ironton was leading 15-14 vs. Midland going into the 4th Qtr. Ironton had 6 Turnovers in the game that ultimately decided it. If you think Ironton wouldn’t play Huntington this year(YourCrazy). They played Moeller just 2 years ago in a 2 score game. Ironton will play anyone. (PERIOD).
Tigers can have Blazer Tomcats first week of game season regardless of venue. Then face the 2022 WV Large School State Champs Huntington Highlanders only in Huntington, WV at their own Bob Sung Stadium.
Difference is Huntington isn’t Midland. Huntington won WV AAA last year and is going to win AAA again most likely. I don’t care if they can play can they WIN
Ironton reached out to Huntington last year and Huntington never returned any phone calls. Ironton then reached out to Cabell Midland and scheduled the game.
Someone reported that the Huntington coach said its a lose lose situation scheduling Ironton.
In some aspects this is true. If Huntington played and beat Ironton then they did what they were supposed to do. If they lose then it’s a loss to a smaller school from across the river. Not much to gain in that regard.
That is sort of true, while Ironton is a good program in the WVSSAC they’d be class A which does not yield a ton of points for Huntington who is AAA. And with how the playoff point structure has changed in WV not a ton of points for beating Ironton and who Ironton would beat down the road. Cabell-Midland must not have cared and just wanted to play solid competition
