Its the week that every Dragon waits for. The game where, regardless of record, winning this game just means more.
The Dragons will make the 7 mile trip down Route 7 and renew the rivalry that dates back to 1949 when Rome and Proctorville consolidated to form FHS against the Chesapeake Panthers (aka That School Down the Road, aka Those Ugly Purple-Wearing Goons.)
The Dragons lead the series 39-36-1 and have not lost to the Panthers since 2016.
Despite Chesapeake’s big upset of Rock Hill this week, I still think the Dragons will continue the winning streak.
I’ll go with the peak over “the team up the river”!!! Lol. Should be a good game considering…this isn’t a loaded “up the river team”.like they’ve had the last few years.
Fun Historical Fact: When Rome and Proctorville initially consolidated to form Fairland, they did not have a football stadium. Until the “new school” (now Fairland Middle School) opened in 1956, the Dragons played all of their football games at Chesapeake (I believe where the Community Center is) and it was not until 1958 that there were lights at the field.
Throw all the historical facts you want but I’m talking about the game that’s coming up this friday. Ill take the peake over those dragons unless they have some new coaching staff.
The Panthers are probably feeling pretty good about themselves after the way that they beat the Redmen. To secure their second win of the season they will have to beat their close rival, the Fairland Dragons. Being that neither team had the type of season that they had hoped for, I’m going to rate this game as a toss-up. With Roundball season just around the corner, let’s hope for an injury free game for both teams.
